Later in the war, there were some Oberleutnants (1st Lieutenant) in command of a U-Boat. But the Commander of a boat or ship is always the "Captain of...", no matter, what his rank is. (though it is not really correct). So, if he is Lieutenant but in command of the submarine, they call him "captain".

I did read about that. This movie shows how we tried to play a part in the Battle of the Atlantic. This movie is great. The suspense drives you to the the edge of your seat and the sound effects are incredible. I saw this movie in theatres and I bought the DVD 2 1/2 years ago for 6 bucks from Game Stop.
