Sincerely, this movie, in my opinion, stinks. I have a very clear motive. Fellini describes ecstasy, eroticism and crimes in ancient Italy and Greece. A very bizarre movie indeed, but a pretty stinky one. The quality of this movie is not at all good, and the same: hard to understand, and this movie I saw it now, at 17. I still think this movie reaches Fellini's limits, in showing naked women and men, and sex scenes. "Satyricon" is not a movie of my type.

Listen to the guys shouting outside the maze. This kind of Singing is from Indonesia and is perform at special ceremonies. Fellini was good at incorporate this sound to the movie, making it more weird.

Black Metal is mainly about finding our roots, therefore achieve completion and immortality. The anger expressed in some songs targets all the things who prevent us from reaching that completion : money, modern culture, religion etc
Just read some lyrics and feel the music. I think its one of the best genres ever...

I think abclukeabc meant ironic(al) - and he's right. Think of the circus: think Italian working class, hands everywhere: think of perfect art (the scenes are classically designed) ... and the word "Amarcord" itself [purportedly "I remember"] ... semi-autobiographical... this is a film that must have meant a great deal to Fellini. This is something like what he experienced (the memory softens/sharpens/exaggerates/is selective). This is partly a celebration of survival (hardiness, ingenuity).
