Delmer Daves who had directed Troy Donahue in WB's "A Summer Place" reprises here with 3 WB stars Connie Stevens, Diane McBain aand Sharon Hugueny. Claudette Colbert was lured out of retirement to play Troy's Mother, and adds panache to this great film. Chad Everett another WB star began his career with this film. As one can see from the trailer WB gave Troy the big star buildup and he had a great run while at WB

Joe Black is real tho the name is only implied, and I met him on the other side. Joe sent me back in 1978 seems it wasn't yet time, and at that time he needed me here, Joe gave to me a choice. It really takes me back everytime I see this movie both the experience and Joe Black were incredibly moving but let me ask you this...

You keep getting ...

You're not kidding - they don't make 'em at all like this at all anymore. And what a score. A 10 hankie classic weepie, even for a dude. Over 3 hours long, and yet the script is so magnificently "tight" you don't notice the time... One wishes it would just continue. Indeed, a masterpiece, and one of the top 10 dramas ever filmed in my books. A stunner. Posters/subscribers that appreciate this knockout have excellent taste.

Reducing a "World ...
Reducing a "World War" to simply being started by the Japanese is far too simplistic. The war was already going on at that point. Though, I do agree that the Japanese were not communists, haha.
