They had nothing to ...
They had nothing to do with each other than the title of the movie. Totally different. Tezuka made this as a result of the World Wars. The German movie by Lang was different. Totally. I watched both. Maybe your pissed cause it IS better than Lang's! Rintaro and his crew work beyond hard to bring Tezuka's comic book to life and they did a remarkable job. Read the comic first before you get mad about Langs Metropolis. They are different, fools!

I don't know why Tezuka didn't want a movie made, but I heard the people working on it say that he didn't in the bonus features of the DVD.

Not the plot, just the characters. He looked, examined, and devoluped many ways to draw eyes, noses, and hair for characters rather than sticking with one style.
