Many people snicker ...
Many people snicker at this film, but I watched it late at night when I was a kid...and it was a pretty creepy flick. It's based on the W. H. Hodgson story "A Voice In The Night" and even as an adult, it's pretty atmospheric. The Mushroom People look silly, but you don't see a lot of them. Also...when I was a kid...I sort of thought of the shipwrecked crew as a Japanese version of the crew of the Minnow. There's the Asian versions of Ginger, The Professor, Skipper and all the rest.

Matango. a.k.a. Attack of the Mushroom People. This film, nearly got banned, because when the part where the show the guys turning into mushrooms, was almost reminiscent to the mutations after the war.
