I watched this movie yesterday on TV- it is one of the best German movies ever! Just perfect!

So ein wahnsinns Film! Ich hätt echt heulen können... Und das ist so real! Das ist mir erst in den letzten Tagen bewusst geworden, wie treist die Stasi war. Ich selbst kenne zwei personen, die abgehöert worden sind. Absolut genialer Film!!!!

No. It is not about the music. But as he is monitoring Dreyman and his girlfriend he realises how rich their lives are in comparision to his own as a loyal party member (and it is not the KGB but the Stasi). He can't deny any longer that he is working for the wrong side. During the interrogation at the end of the movie Wiesler's superior is asking him whether he is still on the right side and this movie and Wiesler's glance make you ask yourself: "Which is the right side?".

desgraciadamente hoy como ayer podemos fiarnos bien poco del "projimo"... podemos alzar nuestra bandera y nuestro credo y defenderlo con ugnas y dientes y hasta la muerte, solo si con ello alcanzamos nuestros objetivos, egoistas e individualistas... pero olvidamos defender con la misma pasion a aquel que duerme a nuestro lado todas las noches, y nos abraza, si sus objetivos, pese a nobles y grandes, truncan nuestros suegnos... la fidelidad y el amor, la defensa y el respeto poco a poco mueren...
