I don't see the discrepency in his Mark/Luke example about Jesus' attitude toward his death. And so what if Mark and Luke give a different perspective on who Jesus is. Both can be true. The movie, "Passion of the Christ", portrayed well how both attitudes, dread of death and complete control, can be reconciled in one person. Ehrman's strict commitment to his methodology has made him so critical that he has rendered himself useless at helping anyone come to the truth of who Christ really was.
