The same crime should get the same sentence, regardless of motive. Why should it make any difference whether some thug beats me up because he wants to rob me, or because he hates Jews, or because he just likes beating people up? The same amount of harm is done, therefore the punishment should be the same. "Hate crime" is thoughtcrime.

I too was a victim of a Hate crime. I was tied up and strangled but I was able to survive and I think that this is so terriable. my best friend knew Ryan very well since like 2000. And still talks about how much of a nice guy he is and misses him very much.

I have prevented ...
I have prevented gay youth, as young as 12, from committing suicide. They could no longer stand the hurt, ridicule, taunts, and bullying they endured at school [their teachers never seemed to notice] and in their neighborhood. Most of these youth are also Christian, and so they feel the added rejection of their church and their God. I am so sorry for the pain you have gone through. blaine
