For the crime of criticizing Hitler, showing a sympathetic depiction of Jewish people (most Americans believed Jews were to blame for Hitlers treatment of them at the time) and siding with the communists, or so the Mccarthyites claimed, Chaplin was excommunicated and had to flee to Europe. What a shame.

Thanx for uploading this, it makes the "globe-scene" more complete. As a matter of fact Hitler and the high-ups in the nazi-party watched this movie AT LEAST twice as it was ordered twice according to records found in the supreme Reichkammer after the war ended. Atm, I am sorry not to give any direct reference to this. The talk between "Garbage" and "Hinkel" is hilarious, "Brunettes are troublemakers-they are worse than the jews" - "Then wipe em out".. "A blond world!" "And a brunette dictator!"
