I remember seeing this as a kid, i'm sure on Channel 4. All i can remember is Kong swinging Godzilla around by the tail (?) and the end where they fall off a cliff into the ocean and one of them walks away with the other one missing (??)

The monster mayhem ...
The monster mayhem and destruction are great; but this film is no "Gojira" (1954), "Cloverfield", "The Host" or even "Chaw". Still, it is what it is. The film never tries to be anything more than summer popcorn fun; which is cool. I really like the homage to old monster movies with the opening scene having a ship being attacked at sea. Overall, Godzilla is a fun and exciting film that even the kids can watch. It isn't a true Godzilla film, so-to-speak, but the film is worth owning. 8/10.

The first 30 ...
The first 30 minutes or so of the film are great; especially when the beast first emerges from the pier. I saw this film in the theater on opening day back in 1998. I recently bought this film on blu-ray. The film holds up well in high-definition; even viewing at 1080p; though it is easier to detect blue screen areas. The film is not a flop by any means. The acting is corny. Although, I did like the couple in the film (Animal and his wife). They were hilarious and a welcome treat.

Great special effects but over-the-top and unrealistic acting. Don't get me wrong, this film was great popcorn fun in the summer of 1998. I am a fan of Roland Emmerich's epic destruction films. The acting is where this film falls short. No one cared about Broderick's college romance. The candy-eating mayor, the loud mouth army dude, the nervous and blinking soldier, the wining ex-girlfriend were all PURE CHEESE. The legendary Jean Reno complaining about coffee all day was a bit much too.

Not jus that but the entire set pieces and effect shots as well see Toho's staff and crew but there hearts and souls into making these fabulous hand-crafted effects and they should be proud of it. They have done things Hollywood could only dream to do.

he buscado esta peli por mucho tiempo, aca en mexico llego con el nombre de mecaking contra godzilla, y a mi parecer esta y la de la isla de los monstruos son las mas chingonas, donde salian todos los monstruos que han salido en las pelis de godzilla contra hydra, muy chingonas, gracias
