But, anyway, there was a page with photographs of posters of Evita from the Perón era, and one of them had a bust of her with a halo around the head and it read, "Madona de américa,": which means "The Madonna of the Americas." It could also be roughly translated as "The New World Madonna."

Madonna finally leaps beyond her persona and truly BECOMES the First Lady of Argentina, Eva Duarte de Peron!!! The Golden Globes took recognition of the hard work put forth by crew, actors and director. "Evita" snagged 'Best Director' for Alan Parker and 'Best Actess in a Musical or Comedy' for Madonna, well deserved! A must see film!!

Madonna was GREAT on this movie. Madonna begged for this role and what did she do? acted it out BRILLIANTLY and won a golden globe for best actress. yes there were other movies that she came out in and weren't so good. but i know she didnt beg for those other roles. Madonna is now rumored to play another role that she herself wants to portray and thats Wallis Simpson. google it. hopefully she will play that role in the future.

My dad said when they told the argentinian people that she would be playing evita they said she was a whore and said no, and the people for maddonna said, well who better to play eva? ( Hmm....crosses eachother out doesnt it?)
