It does receive a lot of negativity it doesn't deserve. The battle between Neo and Smith had to be over-the-top, and inevitably (hoho) computer effects were needed in abundance because both of them are brimming with power. It was a fitting end.
And the scene where Smith is in the Oracle's appartment was so scary!!
